'Rick on Whatever'--Tuesday 8/5/08

He is one of St Louis' best all time professional athletes--and probably the least known. On August 13th he will get some well-deserved recognition as he will receive his star on the St Louis Walk of Fame in the Loop.

I'm talking about Bob Pettit. Ever heard of him ? Probably not. You see Bob Pettit played for the St Louis Hawks--an NBA team that moved to Atlanta in the late 60's. Pettit retired in 1965 and he's lived in his native Baton Rouge Louisiana ever since.

But get a load of these stats. Pettit was an 11 time NBA All-Star and a 2 time NBA MVP. He was the NBA All-Star Game MVP 4 times. He lead the league in scoring twice and was always in the top 5 in rebounds. And Bob Pettit was the first NBA player to score 20-thousand points.

Too bad Pettit's accomplishments here in St Louis have been forgotten-and thanks to the walk of fame people for remembering him.
