A Death in the Family: Death & Mourning in the 19th Century

Where: Chatillon-DeMenil House 3352 DeMenil Place Saint Louis, Missouri 63118 Starts: October 19th @ 12:00 PM Ends: October 19th @ 5:00 PM Please join us for an afternoon of quiet contemplation at the Chatillon-DeMenil House on Sunday October 19th from noon to five o'clock as we observe the ritual of 19th Century Mourning.

Programs for the afternoon include:
Exhibits featuring 19th Century embalming & funeral practices, postmortem photography, mourning clothing & customs, hair-work jewelry & many other death related artifacts from the Victorian Era. Grave stone rubbing demonstrations will be held throughout the event on the lawn of the Chatillon-DeMenil House. Learn about this simple and beautiful way to preserve time worn inscriptions.

Contacting the Other Side then and now, a two part exhibit. First experience a detailed reenactment of a 19th Century Seance. Then visit with the St. Louis chapter of PRISM the Paranormal Research and Investigative Studies Midwest, who will be showing equipment & evidence they have recorded during their many paranormal investigations.

Admission is $10 per guest. Tarot Card Readings are $5. The Chatillon-DeMenil House Foundation is a non-profit organization. All proceeds from this event go to the care and upkeep of the House.
