Just next door to the haunted Lemp Mansion (where the ToastedRav crew is staying tonight!) is the Chatillon-DeMenil House. The DeMenil house is an historic St. Louis home that has its own tale and history - complete with friendly ghosts and a rich family. Though they may not be recognized like their famous neighbors, the Lemp Mansion would not even be standing today if it weren't for a group of preservationists who fought to save the Chatillon-DeMenil house from Highway 55 construction. Thanks to those interested in saving one of the few buildings in the city that boasts Gothic Revival architecture their spooky neighbors were spared from becoming only a memory as well.

The highway was redirected and the house was converted to a museum where every year, just in time for Halloween, the museum hosts an event with more creep than scare and more history than story - a recreation of a Victorian era mourning. The event is the only one of its kind in the area and all proceeds benefit the house for repairs and upkeep. There are people dressed in authentic mourning clothing from the era, recreations of the seances that were such a big part of Victorian spirituality, and people talking about funeral arts.

The Chatillon-DeMenil House is located at 3352 DeMenil Place. The museum boasts the largest 1904 World's Far memorabilia collection and guided tours are available Tuesday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm.
