OK, I can't actually read tarot cards, but I have been feeling a bit psychic lately after a few dreams I had proved true, and I got to thinking about the whole psychic/extrasensory perception (ESP) concept.

With psychics, people typically are on one side of the fence or the other. It's either perceived as a bunch of bull poo (that's some high-quality censoring right there) or taken for gospel.

I definitely think all hotline psychics are full of it and just out to tell you what you want to hear for 99 cents a minute, but on the contrary there are a few credible psychic-esque folks out there whose readings could make you think twice.

I'm not going to declare myself a believer or non-believer, but I have had a few questionable events in my life that make me want to believe.

In my teen years, my Mother went to a private "psychic reading party" (hey, it's not a Tupperware party) with some co-workers and had her past, present and future told to her. Everything the woman said was dead-on and she was able to tell my Mom details about people and events that no one else could possibly know. The lady made quite a believer out of my Mom and when certain things happen in her life, she'll say, "the psychic said that would happen!" (If you are interested in finding more out about local psychics, click here.)

Through the years since, I've always remembered what the psychic revealed to my Mom about me. I'll keep the details to myself, but she's on the money. However, could they have come true because what she said stuck in my mind and I subconsciously conformed?

Skepticism aside, I've always been a big believer in my dreams being some kind of foreshadowing of things to come and in many cases I have had premonitions in my dreams that came true.

Call it what you will, but I predicted the engagement, pregnancy and sex of my cousin's baby in my dreams without any knowledge of her life plans. Surely, the chances of them just being an educated guess are strong, but the dreams and feelings were so vivid I never doubted them for a second. She really did call me Miss Cleo once! (Although that may have been a backhanded compliment, considering what a fraud she was.)

Now, my dreams aren't always on target; after my cousin confirmed her pregnancy and the baby's sex, I dreamt she gave birth to a pit-bull puppy. (Maybe I shouldn't drink before bed? Something to consider...) Happy to report she gave birth to a normal, healthy baby girl.

Do you believe that some people really do have the power to read our future and provide accurate advice or do you think some people are just fantastic at the guessing game?

Have you had any premonitions or psychic rumblings of your own?
