As the news of the shooting at the Pfizer facility was breaking yesterday the comments on several news sites started lighting up with a debate over the coverage and attention that was being given to the incident and the way people were reacting to it. Yesterday afternoon a contractor at the Chesterfield Pfizer facility was shot in the foot while on the job, and as of this morning the suspect is still at large. The campus and local schools were locked down for several hours as a result of the shooting, but very few details were released about the victim or the suspect. It could be random, it could be domestic - right now no one knows.

As I was perusing through the sites trying to get more information I noticed that several St. Louisans were commenting on the story saying that if this incident had happened in North County the media and the public would be reacting differently. I wonder if it was really the location or the fact that it was a work place shooting that prompted the attention and interest? I would guess that more than the location, people expect to feel safe while on the job so when news breaks that someone was violently attacked while working people worry and want to know more. What do you think?
