I've always liked the fleur-de-lis symbol (even though I can never remember how to spell it), especially since it has become kinda fashionable lately, but I've never really given much thought as to how all that relates to St. Louis. I learned that the symbol was the focal point of St. Louis' flag way back in grade school, but I didn't know until recently that it's on the flag because it represents the convergence of the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois rivers. Not to mention its connection to King Louis - for whom this fine city is named. Needless to say, it would be hard for the fleur-de-lis to be any more St. Louis-related than it already is, and now you can fashionably and subtly pay tribute to STL all day long.
Here are a few stylish pieces that feature St. Louis' most well-known trendy symbol:
Juicy Couture's Fleur De Lis Wish Bangle can be found at most high-end department stores, including Neiman Marcus here in STL. At $48, it's a doable 14-karat splurge.
This 2 B Free fleur-de-lis shirt from Bluefly features St. Louis' most fashionable symbol in a really bright way.
If you don't really want to wear the fleur-de-lis, you can still add it into your daily beauty routine. Estée Lauder's from Macy's (a throw back the the fleur-de-lis' floral origin) will give your cheeks a fresh glow.
At just under $4 (yes, you read that right), this Fleur-de-lis bikini from Target is just the thing to get you ready for Spring Break. That way, you can represent St. Louis when you're making sandcastles on a beach someplace with better weather.
And don't forget it is also the symbol for our French-founded friends down in New Orleans!
