The beginning of spring is like a second Christmas; unboxing half of a year's wardrobe and dusting off your cute shoes gets you all giddy, like when you finally get to unwrap the big present that has been taunting you from under the tree. Inevitably, though, we all end up with a pile of clothes that we know we won't wear and that we shouldn't afford our precious closet space to.

This year, why not bag up those closet hogs and trade them in for some pimp new duds - for free? This weekend the Missouri History Museum is hosting "Swap-O-Rama-Rama," a free event where you can trade-in your retired wardrobe pieces and resurrect discarded closet treasures from around the city.

"Swap-O-Rama-Rama" is like a garage sale with a twist; after you make your clothing swap you can bring your finds to DIY Workshops where you will learn how to make the most of your fashion finds with small modifications or a complete overhaul. A full range of sewing materials, from machines to buttons, will be at your disposal and everything is completely free of charge.

What: Swap-O-Rama-Rama
When: Saturday, February 21 from 12pm -4pm
Where: Missouri History Museum (Lindell & DeBalivere in Forest Park)

Just bring a bag of clean clothes and your Project Runway prowess.

"Swap-O-Rama-Rama" is a series of international events where folks are recycling their wardrobes and getting creative while doing it. New York artist Wendy Tremayne dreamed up the event and she has been working to bring it to other cities and countries under a Creative Commons license since 2005. Folks from the St. Louis Craft Mafia will be volunteering at the event and helping you turn your closet trash into closet treasures.
