Many people don't appreciate the awesomeness that is bluegrass music, but that might be because they don't understand it. I'll admit, with the label "bluegrass," most people automatically think of hay, harmonicas, minor keys and banjos. And while that is actually pretty accurate, don't write off bluegrass just yet.
It might be a little harder to connect with traditional first-generation bluegrass, but there are tons of bands around today (newgrass) who can make your foot tap without making you feel like you're on a farm. Old Crow Medicine Show is probably the most well-known as of lately, but the Soggy Bottom Boys gained a bit of notoriety for "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow," which was featured on O Brother Where Art Thou?
Click on the Video tab if you want to give bluegrass a try - they're some of my favorites.
If you like what you hear, the 19th Annual Gateway City Bluegrass Music Festival will be happening in St. Louis at the end of this month (February 27 to March 1). More more info, head here.
