The bullets are about to start flying in one St. Louis suburb since they passed a resolution allowing the sterilization and hunting of deer in Town & Country. is reporting:
The Board of Aldermen on Monday evening approved a plan to begin the culling of some deer in the city and the sterilization of others in response to the burgeoning, and often problematic, deer population.
The plan also makes it illegal for residents to feed deer or to interfere with city-sponsored efforts to kill or trap the animals.
Legions of suburban hunters (they stalk their prey in SUV's instead of deer stands) and vets who enjoy spaying and neutering (I'm not even going to go there) are rejoicing. Town & Country residents can now stop whining that they called "dibs" and that there are no take-backs when it comes to their front yards. The Board of Aldermen have declared that the subdivisions win because finders are keepers, and any deer found to be losers-weepers in this case will be shot on site.
As for the "they stalk their prey in SUV's instead of deer stands" quip, I don't know if they have many options besides scouting from your vehicle in an urban setting. It's not like you can just start walking through people's yards to see which areas the deer are using.
I say let's give this a go and see how it goes.
As someone who hunts (mostly waterfowl), I am a bit surprised they have decided to use firearms over the bow.
