About The Author:

Born an Air Force brat in Japan in 1966, traveled half the world by the time I was 7. Grew up from the age of 7 to 18 in Minnesota then I started to search for a place to plant my roots...Wyoming, Arizona didn't work but wow those roots run deep in the midwest...I'm proud to say I have spent half of my life on 92.3 WIL! On the air M-F 2-7pm.

If you knew the man, his voice, his stories and reports well then you probably were stopped in your tracks when you heard the news that Paul Harvey passed away over the weekend.

His voice was heard on WIL for many, many years and low and behold I learned that his ties to STL were more than just on the air.  He had met his wife in St. Louis many years before.

My friend Cheryl was a nurse to a family member of his and when Paul, Angel and the rest of their brood were in St. Louis for the 4th of July 1992...she asked if I'd like to meet them.  I said I was on my way.   I was here working at WIL 92, the year was 1992, and it was 4th of July and I was about to meet Paul Harvey...you have baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and PAUL HARVEY...doen't get anymore american than that.

I'll never forget the day...she told me the room number to arrive at...as I approached the partially opened doorway...I knocked and as the door inched open I saw his face...it was really Paul Harvey and he spoke first...I'll never forget the first thing he said to me.

"Well hello American"  He made me feel right at home...introducing his wife as his live-in girlfriend for the last x many years.  I met his son and the rest of them...what a wonderful memory to be in the same room as one of my broadcast idols.

One of my favorite broadcasts of his was The rest of the story.  Thanks to listener Joe he has sent me this link...the cool thing is youtube has a bunch of Paul Harvey's work.

Paul I thank you for what you have done for me and for this country.  I will miss you.
