*** The Cards win another series...taking the rubber match from the Braves in Atlanta. They've lost just one series this entire season (to the Cubs at Wrigley) and have split one. When the goal for the first few months of the season is to do nothing but win series...that's pretty good. Are they perfect? Not by any means. But everything is coming together really nicely so far in 2009.
*** What's the deal with Adam Wainwright? His numbers end up looking pretty good (6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER) but in the end, he's not the pitcher so far that they NEED. Wainwright continues to waste too many pitches and walk too many people. Over the course of his career, Waino has never been this wild and had this little control. I know he's 3-0 with a 2.76 ERA, but if this team is going to make a serious run at the playoffs and THROUGH the playoffs, they'll need Wainwright to be better.
*** It's time to start looking at Ryan Franklin as a legit closer. You don't accumulate 7 saves to start a major league season while giving up ZERO runs by accident. Franklin does not have the wipe away stuff that you look for in a closer. He's not Brad Lidge. But he's a seasoned veteran who has learned over the course of his entire career how to get people out. That is starting to show now.
