Picture this: suffering through Christmas Eve without 24 hours of A Christmas Story on TBS, never having heard of a leg lamp being given as a major award, and no particular reason to worry about BB guns. Would Christmas be the same? There was a time, readers and friends, when this was a grim reality and this year commemorates the 25th anniversary of the end of that dark period. This weekend people flooded the small town and home in Ohio where A Christmas Story was filmed to celebrate the film's anniversary with a convention and take tours of the town that is now an important part of everyone's Christmas traditions.

This Christmas classic is filled with so many memorable lines and scenes that after people overcome the internal struggle of pin-pointing just one favorite scene, they can rattle off their favorite lines and bits with more ease than they could name their own state's Congressmen. To mark the anniversary (and to get myself a little more into the holiday spirit) I took a quick, but entirely scientific, poll to see what everyone's favorite scenes were, and here is what a few St. Louisans said:

Tammy - There are too many to pick just one! Maybe when Santa shoves him down the slide "You'll shoot your eye out kid!"

Dana - The part where Ralphie beats the tar out Scot Farkus. That was awesome.

Matt - Referring to his father's artistic use of profanity, "It was definitely his medium." That's my favorite part.

Craig - Ralphie's dad's furnace rant "It's a clinker!"

JD - The tongue on the flag pole and how they bandage the kids tongue

Sandy - Fa-Ra-Ra-Ra-Ra... I sing it every time I go to Kobe on Olive!

Archie - it's between "You'll shoot your eye out" and licking the flagpole

Kara - When the little brother can't move in his cold weather gear. "I can't put my arms down!"

Holly - "OH FUDGE!" the scene with the tire change!

Don - the delivery of 'the lamp'. "Fra-gee-lay. That must be Italian"

Courtney - The little kid giggling like a maniac

John - "Ho, Ho, Ho" *foot to face*

Kari - The little piggie scene....the family is eating dinner and the mom is trying to get the littlest one to eat his mashed potatoes.

My personal favorite is the scene where the family receives the "major award" Don mentioned above. You can see the clip by checking out the Video tab. Every time I write "Fragile" on a box I have to say, "It's Italian," and giggle incessantly. I have even been known to add those three magical words in marker below the breakables warning. Happy anniversary A Christmas Story - I am not sure what packing or Christmas would be like without you!
